HAVING A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

DON’T WORRY, WE ARE HERE.

Emergencies are always unexpected and often serious. And dental emergencies could be caused by anything from a sports injury or an accident to tooth decay and infection. Knowing what constitutes as an emergency and what you need to do at that moment can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

The different types of dental emergencies you must know about:

  1. Severe Toothache

Excruciating, throbbing pain in the tooth or gums that takes your attention away from everything is when you should waste no time in reaching out to your nearest emergency dentist near Hastings! This could be due to an infection or cavity, or even the sign of periodontal disease or an abscess in the tooth.

  1. Incessant Bleeding

If you have a cut that won’t stop bleeding, then you might need to have stitches to seal the wound. You should rush to the nearest hospital, or contact us for emergency dental services.

  1. Knocked out tooth

In the event of a knocked out tooth, either from a sports injury or other accident, you run the risk of losing your tooth for good if you don’t get timely help. Thankfully, we always have an emergency dentist available for our patients near Hastings. Be sure to retain the tooth safely till you meet up with the dentist.

  1. Fractured tooth

Sometimes, an injury to the face can turn into a dental crisis, in the form of a chipped or fractured tooth. A timely visit to our emergency dentist near Hastings can prevent further chipping and cracking of the tooth.

  1. Swelling and abscess

If you experience an unusual swelling in your gums, accompanied with toothache and an inability to bite, and even a fever, you might likely have an abscess in your tooth. Delaying immediate treatment could result in losing not only the abscessed tooth, but also spreading the infection to surrounding teeth and gums.

No matter what the emergency, whenever you have one, feel free to call our office right away. We will make room in our schedule to see you as soon as possible.

Here are some helpful tips for handling some of the more common dental emergencies until you can come see us.

Toothache

For a severe toothache, you can get temporary relief using one of the pain relievers available at your local pharmacy. But a severe toothache means you have a serious dental problem that needs to be fixed right away.

Chipped Tooth

If you’ve chipped a tooth, you should rinse your mouth with warm water. To protect the inside of your mouth, you can cover any rough edges with dental wax available at your local pharmacy.

Tooth Knocked Out

If you’ve had a tooth knocked out, don’t pick it up by the root end; pick it up using the top end where the enamel is. Gently rinse it off with water, but don’t use soap, alcohol, or anything else to clean the tooth.

If you’re suffering from any of the above call us immediately and come in for emergency treatment. Your chances of saving the tooth are much better if you can get treatment within one hour of the tooth being knocked out. We also urge our patients to get checked by the emergency dentist in our Hastings clinic even after the bleeding and pain subside, to ensure that there is no infection.
