Crowns and Veneers
Crowns and Veneers may be required to help save and strengthen a tooth when a simple white filling will not be strong enough. While more expensive than fillings, crowns, veneers and bridges look more like real teeth and last significantly longer.
Crowns and/or Veneers may be needed for the following reasons:
- There is a large cavity in the tooth, which will not have a long lifetime if a simple white filling is placed
- To help strengthen a heavily filled tooth
- To help protect a tooth that has been root canal treated
- To restore a cracked tooth
- For cosmetic enhancement
- To restore a dental implant
- For people who are heavy clenchers or grinders
RESTORE YOUR TEETH TO THEIR ORIGINAL GLORY
With high qualitydental crowns near Mornington
Dental crowns are useful prosthetic devices that can help restoring function and aesthetics to damaged and decayed teeth. In case you are wondering what a dental crown is, it is just like a tooth-shaped cap that covers and encases the affected tooth completely.
Crowns and bridges can greatly benefit those who have missing or damaged teeth. In fact, missing or damaged teeth do not only cause loss of functionality and an increased risk for dental infections, but can also greatly affect one’s confidence to smile. At Baxter Dental Surgery, we offer the highest quality dental crowns and bridges right from our clinic near Mornington.
When do you need crowns and veneers?
Crowns and Veneers may be required to help save and strengthen a tooth when a simple white filling will not be strong enough. While more expensive than fillings, crowns, veneers and bridges look more like real teeth and last significantly longer.
Crowns and/or Veneers may be recommended for the following reasons:
- There is a large cavity in the tooth, which will not have a long lifetime if a simple white filling is placed
- To help strengthen a heavily filled tooth
- To help protect a tooth that has been root canal treated
- To restore a cracked tooth
- For cosmetic enhancement, especially to cover up heavily stained teeth
- To restore a dental implant
- For people who are heavy clenchers or grinders
As we can see, dental crowns are not just a restorative option, but they can also protect and strengthen compromised teeth, so that you can prevent further dental issues like cracking, chipping and breaking of weaker teeth. You can also look at them as a kind of armour for your teeth.
The procedure for dental crowns at our clinic near Mornington
Our dental crowns are completely customized to your teeth and mouth, so that they look and feel natural when you bite or smile. This is the reason that they usually require around two visits. On your first visit, will check the affected tooth, and take impressions of its size and shape to be able to make your customized dental crown. We will also prepare your tooth for the crown by carefully trimming off the outer edges so that the crown can fit well. Our dentist will then place a temporary crown over your tooth till that time.
Your impressions are sent to a dental laboratory, which prepares your final crown. Once that is ready, you will need to come for a second visit where our dentists will remove the temporary crown and will replace it with a permanent crown. In the rare event that any further adjustments are required, we will call you for an additional sitting.
How can you care for dental crowns?
With proper care, dental crowns can last for as long as 12-15 years. However, there are times when crowns might need to be replaced as well – like fractures or decay under the crown, or gum disease affecting the tooth under the crown. In either case, you can be assured of the best dental care at Baxter Dental Surgery.
Areas We Serve:

Bridges
A bridge is a dental restoration made up of porcelain crowns to replace a missing tooth.
Usually, the two teeth either side of the missing tooth are crowned, and these two crowns are attached to another crown which sits or “floats” just above the gumline where the tooth is missing.
